It is sometimes hard to get excited by a conversation that starts with “My 1998 Harley….” Let’s be honest, bells and whistles do not go off with flares at the imagined motorcycle that passes before us. I think if you were to look up the word prejudged in the dictionary, you would probably find a picture of me looking out at you at this moment.
So, let me stand in front of you and say yes, I am prejudice and I was wrong because this particular bike does set off bells and whistles when you look at it and hear it run. The cover came off the bike and as you can see in the images, it is beautiful. Steve fired it up and it is probably one of the best sounding motors I have heard in awhile, no explanation why, just is.
The Dyna Lowrider FXDL came with the 80” Evo motor and 5 Speed with 98 having an updated clutch assembly. FXDL’s were known for their lower center of gravity and foot controls under the rider rather than the forward controls of other models. It handled so much better than other bikes in the range making it a favorite with riders. It shared the easy to remove Saddle Bags of the Convertible, giving it the ability to travel comfortably for days and weeks on end. The FXDL is a motorcycle understressed with long legs and a long service life built in.
It has been with Steve for most of it’s life but due to physical issues, he has been unable to ride it much in the past years. He did regular oil and fluid changes regardless of the miles and installed a new battery last year. Cosmetically you have to see the bike to appreciate it’s condition. It is beautiful, a bike easy to fall in love with.
