I have watched Moto Guzzi bikes for decades, always hoping that I will find a bike that I could fall in love with and be a great mount. For awhile is was the MGS-01’s but they were way beyond my budget and ablities. So when this Griso came by, I was excited to see what the bike might be.
It certainly has the visual impact of an Italian motorcycle, but it is not just another Ducati, it is unique and you will not see one the next time you are out for a ride with your friends. As Moto Guzzi pointed out when introducing the bike, “it has a long and low power cruiser profile,” that it’s “stable as a power cruiser, as agile as a lightweight naked, and as powerful as a muscle bike.”
So the Griso is a mixed bag of promise and message. It feels like a cruiser while you are riding it but the rider stance is a bit sport bike in it’s stock condition. The owner of the bike installed “Knight Engineering” lowered foot pegs for the driver, getting away from the knees around your elbows stance Guzzi designed. The engine is 1069cc of V-Twin running through a Dry Clutch to a Driveshaft driven rear end, tempered by Guzzi’s Compact Reactive Shaft Drive, known as CRSD.
All and all, it is an entertaining bike to ride with all of the Italian charm that creates the attraction but without all of the hyper-stress of Ducati sport bikes and their siblings.
