Our buddy Craig loves German engineering when it comes to anything that includes tires and a battery. When it came time to replace his aging Volkswagen Eurovan, being the successful entrepreneur he is, the Mercedes Sprinter 2500 was the only fit for hauling his motorcycles, family and multiple dogs to shows and track days.
The Sprinter was purchased new in 2013 and provided the perfect fit of function and travel ease. With the back bench seat ready for three riders, Craig was able to transport four passengers and two motorcycles all at the same time. When it came to out of state dog shows, it was spacious enough for their Portuguese Water Dogs to spend the many hours on the road to out of state shows and events.
All was going well until we had the snow storm of 2014, all 8 inches of it. While attempting to cross the Siskiyou's in December, he was required to chain up before proceeding. Rather then continuing, Craig made a U-turn and spent the weekend at home. He really hates chains.
Not to be denied again, when Mercedes announced the very same van, the very same model in the very same color with 4WD, there was not a moment lost to hesitation, a new Sprinter 2500 was ordered, exactly like the 2013 except in 4WD. The new Sprinter arrived quickly and Automania was asked to help with finding a new home for the 15,000 mile, 2013 2WD van that had served them so well until faced with winter. I spent about 2 minutes doing the math and as close as I get is to the cost of buying and installing a set of chains is around $20,000. Some one is going to gain a great Sprinter for $10,000 less then the cost of buying one new. We all need to thank Craig.
The 2500 is as close to new as can be after 15,000 miles. The drivetrain is the Mercedes Blue Tec 3.0 Turbo V-6, capable of 20mpg driving an Automatic Transmission. I have included the Monroney sheet from Mercedes in the images to list the features, if I tired to do it, I would miss something. The Sprinter is still under Factory Warranty and has an assumable 3 year extended warranty available for a small sign up fee.
