Problem with all of these new Side X Sides is they try to answer everyone’s questions and have grown large in doing so. You have to have a trailer to go anywhere which can be a pain once you arrive. Unless you really like dragging a trailer, in which case you figured all of that out already.
Which brings us to this 2015 Honda Pioneer 500. It fits in the back of most pickup truck beds and still does almost everything you want to do in a bigger unit. Fuel Injection, Independent 4 wheel Suspension, Steering Wheel Dual Paddle Shifters, 2WD & 4WD choices, an Automatic Transmission that does not include Belt Drive, allowing compression braking for better control are all standard features. All of this and still capable of traveling on 50 inch wide trails make it better without the bulk and weight of some other Side X Sides. There is also a tow receiver that is rated at 1000 pounds tow capacity.
The Pioneer we have for sale has just 75 miles on it from new. It was bought to encourage “the wife” to go exploring with her significant other on the trails and mountains of Southern Oregon. On one of the first adventures taken, with the wife driving, the tires slipped into a rut and the Honda brushed against an embankment. Panic set it and that was to be the end of the story. It has been parked since and is now up for sale. There are a couple signs of the event on the right side, probably the first of many to come. But before giving up on the idea of “adventuring”, the husband had brand new (and larger sized) Maxxis Tires installed, 26 X 9 R16’s in front and 26 X 11 R16’s in the back but it was too no avail, adventuring in it was over.
