When we had a Lamborghini Superlaggera several years ago that was selling used for $135,000, a good friend mentioned that his stock, slightly used 2002 Porsche Twin Turbo was equally as fast to 100 mph and was 40% less money at $50,000. I sort of ignored his claims, but latter that year, he added his car was even faster with the addition of an exhaust system and cold air intake. Until recently I had forgotten the conversation.
As with many “gotta have” things in life, the lack of four doors caught up with his reality and the Turbo was replaced by a late model Audi S4 last year. His 911 was loaded in our trailer and headed back to Southern Oregon for us to find a new owner. As I passed through Medford, I dropped by a shop and showed the car. Once the 6 speed Manual Transmission and Clutch Pedal was seen, it was sold before it came out of the trailer.
As part of the vetting process for the car, a pre-purchase inspection was completed by Aaron’s in Medford. Some minor issues were noted, but it was discovered that the clutch was in need of replacement. A deal was made with the seller and buyer and the car never left Aarons until work was completed. A new clutch assembly, including the Dual Mass Flywheel was installed, a 997 Short Shift Kit plus other minor service work completed bringing the car to 100% mechanical health. After the purchase was made, a new set of Michelin Pilot Sports PS2 tires were installed, a set of Turbo Sport Headers, the Fabspeed Exhaust System added along with a programmable PP100 OBD2 Socket Tuner. The Tuner allows 5 different Files of programming including stock, Tuned 91 Octane and Tuned 93 Non-Ethanol with room for more custom files. All of this through a module that plugs into the OBD2 port under the dash.
Along with the car purchase, all of the prior service records for the prior 40,000 miles were included which we have complete copies of. The car has been maintained with no expense spared for needed servicing or defective items by both owners to date. All of these records are available to interested buyers and have been scanned. As part of our recent vetting of the car, a Auto Check Vin report was pulled with the car generating a 95 out of 100 score. There are no accidents or damage showing with four owners from new.
So how does the car drive? It is tight and without fault for one. The Fabspeed Exhaust has an authoritative sound that does not protrude into the interior, but from the outside is amazing to listen as the car goes past. It has the top of the Line BOSE sound system supplied by Porsche, but it is almost a crime to use its capacity to over shadow the sound of that Twin Turbo Engine exiting the Fabspeed Exhaust.
