Everywhere I read about the 2022 KTM 890 Duke R, the nick name “The Scalpel” was either in the first or second paragraph. It referred to the insane abilities of this street legal bike with blinkers and brake light, right out of the box. It is a naked bike with massive brakes, 121hp engine and top shelf suspension that ownership requirements were the ability to pay for it and to fog a mirror while exhaling. It is plain crazy what the bike can do in capable hands at a track day event much less what might happen on your favorite twisty road.
The owner asked that I not try out it’s virtues unless I was writing a check so I will rely on what is being written and so far, everything I have seen is off the scale. Dual front Brembo Stylema Calipers, Brembo adjustable MCS Master Brake Cylinder, Corning ABS, MTC Traction Control and some 6D Lean Angle Sensor that all sounds like Mandarin to me. To know what you are doing with all of this, you need to take a correspondence class or spend a weekend with Tony Robbins. It all feels over whelming for a person who struggles programming a VCR..
Our customer, who has been collecting social security for almost 20 years wanted one last swing at being a hooligan by buying the R. Turned out that it might have been a little optimistic. A few rides in and some gnarly surgery left the bike with only 917 miles from new and now offered for sale. Before the change of heart, a Competition Exhaust System, KTM Tank Bag and Windshield were installed. The stock parts are boxed up and come with the motorcycle.
