The 2004 BMW R1150R gave the BMW riding experience without the weight and complexity other R1150’s in the line accumulated with “have to have” features that adorn most of their bikes. The “R” model weighted dramatically less (almost 100 pounds then RT) and allowed a reduced seat height. For smaller riders or those looking for more responsive handling, the “R” bike was the perfect compromise, hard bags, the optional windscreen, heated grips and the famous boxer engine layout that has been their trade mark for over 80 years.
This particular bike shows well with a few signs of its road use and travels. Mechanically it feels tight and it rode so predictably BMW like I was reminded why the brand has done well over the past decades with their twins. Cosmetically there are a few signs of the miles traveled. The front seat has wear spot at the tank, the foot peg rubbers are worn and for the life of me, I cannot get the Givi Rear Trunk to latch closed. Possibly operator error, but a heads up.
Tires look to have at least 70% of use left. The seat is very low and inside seam challenged riders will find a perfect fit along with the lowered foot pegs. Along with the bike is a binder with the service history of the motorcycle, the owner’s manual and accessory instructions. With the reduced weight and low riding position it maybe the perfect fit for someone looking to tour the country or be commuting to work
