The BMW R1800 Bagger was the factories’ swing at the Harley Big Motorcycle riders they saw as an expanding market segment. Their timing was poor and that is a fact. The general market place was slowing down and big bikes ridden by older folks were not selling as they had been. Add a cost over $23,000 out the door and it produced a lot of unsold bikes. The motorcycle it’s self is outstanding with the feel and look of what BMW’s character is, a big twin, beautiful workmanship and reliability Harley can only dream of.

And it is a great long distance mount. The bagger was intended to be a Spartan version of the Touring, enough luggage space for long distance along with a host of electronic features designed to host those longer trips.

The engine is tractor like, a 1800cc twin putting out 91 hp and 116 lb-ft’s of torque. Any gear, any time. With 6.3 gallons of fuel, it came in at just under 880 lbs. It is the perfect high speed touring motorcycle with the most basic of mechanical features, it really does define motorcycle riding romance on the open road. But it is big and around town can be a bit of wrestling match at slow speeds.

The internet is a massive source for all of the electronic technical features including the mode adjustable Active Suspension. The Dash is a mystery to me, I am still struggling with VCR’s.
