The Kawasaki Versys 650 was intended to go head to head with the Suzuki V-Strom but with a slightly more road use intent. Call the V-Strom a 80/20 bike and the Kawasaki a 85/15 split between street and off road. Both bikes worked around a Twin Cylinder Engine putting out about 69hp and weighting within 6 pounds of each other with a fuel on board. The bike provided good braking and handling without being threatening with too much of either in abrupt manners. It had the ability to handle two riders comfortably on the street and would handle gravel roads when requested.

Our bike was purchased recently by a couple looking for a lower seat height in a stock bike. After a couple of rides, there was a tip over at a light on the left side that left a couple of minor marks and a change was considered. The bike was taken to Medford Kawasaki and an 1 ½ inch lowering kit installed to bring the bike closer to earth. A set of crash bars were also installed at the same time but the marks were already there. Despite the lowered stance, the rider never felt comfortable with riding and so a choice was made to sell the bike.
