1972 GMC C2500 Sierra Grande 402 2WD

A local widow bought this “restored” GMC C2500 Sierra Grande about three years ago for $17,000 for use while rock hunting around the valley. It is safe to say that the seller was less than forthright with her about the condition of the truck but she made an error in judgment when agreeing to the price.
That said, this 1972 GMC C2500 with a factory big block 402, Disk Brakes in front and AC has really good bones. The paint and body work were most likely done at someone’s shop and was their first attempt. What saved the day was the total lack of rust anywhere. I looked at the bottom of the door corners, the rear corners of cab and behind the rear tire area in the wheel wells and then underneath the truck. Nothing of significance is there. The very rear pockets on top of the bed rails are beat up but the tail gate is in good order. There is some odd bodywork done where the rear facing cab/bed light use to be and the cover doors for the gas tanks are pretty basic, but for the most part the body is pretty straight. The interior is nice and it looks like a new head liner is in place along with a reupholstered seat and newish carpet. Tires and wheels look to have almost no wear.
Driving the truck is a no brainer. It does everything normally and is easy to drive. The drivetrain does not make any abnormal noises and everything works. The brakes are good, the transmission smooth and the power steering makes it feel like the same effort you would find driving a Toyota Corolla. It has a drip between the engine and transmission and also one at the differential between the cover and the pumpkin.
Like I said, good bones.
