1979 Jeep CJ5
Price: $12,695 USD
The first time on the Rubicon was in a CJ5 and from the day forward I lusted for anything Jeep. It was an unstuckable rig with minimal accommodations made for passenger comfort and would go anywhere. The other 98% of unpaved roads were opened up for me and there has been no turning back.
This 1979 CJ5 was obviously a frame off project done at least 20 years ago. The paint does not show masking and is the same color everywhere. The first clue was the Frenched radio antenna. Correct me if I am wrong, but that was never a Jeep thing. The under carriage was stripped and painted black, hardware replaced along with reversed front spring shackles added. There are a set of Rancho RS9000 Shocks with adjustable dampening along with aftermarket springs and bushings. Looking at the underside you can tell it was driven but there are no signs of rust or serious impact anywhere on the frame or skid plates.
The engine is the AMC 258 6-Cylinder and a 4-Speed Manual Transmission and 2-Speed Transfer Case with 2H and Neutral along with Warn Locking Hubs. Wheels and tires look almost new and 35’s Toyo’s are mounted. The 4WD was checked out here at the shop and everything worked as expected. Nice Hubs!
The interior is a bit tight because of the full cage roll bar. Seats are not bad but the driver’s side has a split seam and minor tear on the left edge. A set of high end Simpson Safety Belts take care of the two front passengers and the back seat is in good order. A full set of gauges and Off-Road Lights were added back in the day.
The Jeep comes from a long time customer who purchased it about eight years ago and then never drove it. His complaint was with the way it drove compared to his Toyota Camry. I drove it around town and it drives like every CJ I have been around, in fact I thought it did great (for a CJ5 with 35’s). Mechanically everything felt right with no rattles or pulling. The only thing I noted was the top and doors have seen better days. The owner has just spent $2,500 in service with the receipts on the webpage.
The selling price is $12,695. Miles showing are 13 and the VIN# J9M83EC134580. For other interesting bikes and collectable vehicles, visit our web site http://www.automaniagp.com 541 479 8888 or come by and see us at 895 SE Gladiola Drive, Grants Pass, Oregon, 97526. Oregon Dealer DA1287.
