1967 Jeep Gladiator J3000 Custom Cab

The J Series Jeeps were produced from 1962 until 1988. The Jeep Gladiator Pickup is remarkable for remaining in production for more than 26 years as a single automobile platform with mostly minor cosmetic changes. The 327 AMC Vigilante V-8 was only available from 1966 to 1968 after which Kaiser Jeep Corp began installing the Buick sourced 350 V-8 as a replacement before AMC purchasing the entire company in 1970.
This makes the truck one of the last Jeep Gladiators built by the original Jeep manufacturer Kaiser Jeep Corporation before the presence of AMC, Daimler, Mercedes and finally Fiat. It can be an important historical fact while establishing values qualifying a model or car’s linage over another.
This Jeep Gladiator J3000 Custom Cab 4x4 was purchased new in Grants Pass and remained with the original owner until she passed approximately twenty years ago. In her will she left it to her good friend and mechanic who has for the most part parked it next to his shop the past couple of decades. According to the present owner at the time of her passing, the J3000 had just turned 40,000. Actual miles now showing are 43,422.
Going over the truck over it appears to have original finishes everywhere including underneath the truck including the engine compartment, interior and bed. What did not make things better was being parked outside. The interior soft surfaces all need attention which includes the seats, door panels and dash. The bed is pretty good, but the tail gate has rust perforations at the hinge points that can be seen in the images. There is no sign of impact or repair to the body and the balance is remarkably sound and straight. The underside is 58 years of dirt and grime which has collected from being driven. Tires are aged and for safety reasons would need to be inspected and possibly replaced.
The truck starts and runs great. The motor is quite, the transmission smooth, the steering good by the standards of a truck built in the 60’s. Brakes have been inspected and there is no reason not to expect that the J3000 will not continue in this manner for the immediate future. What a great driver!
