It is not often that a car comes in with receipts that spell out the evolution of the car’s character. This 1931 Ford Model A started out as a restoration over 25 years ago morphed into a transplanted 1984 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Charged 2.3 with AC, Front Suspension with Disk Brakes and accompanying Rear Axle.

The receipts follow a complete and beautiful cosmetic restoration which included paint and interior to a high level of completion. Cosmetically the A is gorgeous inside and out. The Rumble Seat is nicely upholstered and the body work as good as I have seen in recent years on a Model A. There are receipts for instrument rebuilds, latches, cables and new drum brakes. The front fenders were modified to clear the Thunderbird suspension, everything appearing as Ford might have built it (jumping forward 70 years) B.J.’s on Jones Creek, “Mr. Model A” was a supplier and guide as there a numerous receipts from his shop in the day

Somewhere along the way at the start of the millennium, three friends decided to do a transplant of a modern drivetrain without disturbing the body or interior of the otherwise stock car. A common transplant amongst A enthusiast is the Turbo Charged Engine from the mid-80’s Thunderbirds (which happens to also be a Ford product). A used Turbo 2.3 was given to Jeff Jahns, the only talent in Southern Oregon who believed those 2.3’s belonged in Drag Cars, who built up a livable, but high horsepower motor for the A. Jeff, an expert fabricator, did the rebuild and installation of the drivetrain in 2001 for just under $8,000. A complete spread sheet was kept and shows $26,473 was spent on parts, restoration including the drivetrain.

In 2015 the Transmission was removed, serviced and resealed. There is a one inch thick folder of parts, minor services and the history of the car and the work completed. AC came with the 2.3 and has been charged twice in the past 11 years. It is needing it once again as wasn’t blowing cold on my drive to the shop
