1967 Ford Mustang GT
Price: $19,500 USD
Once in awhile a car comes in that has been owned for a long period of time with several “cooks” in the kitchen so to speak that were “experts” in their fields but in fact should have had their tool boxes taken for a long walk off a short pier.
This 1967 Ford Mustang GT has so many great parts and assemblies installed that is hard to just walk away. The 289 cubic inch V8 is a screamer and pulls like a freight train, sounding spectacular when it spins up while being rowed through the gears by a really great 5-Speed Transmission. Underneath it has 4-wheel disk brakes, tons of new suspension parts, cross braces and reinforcements to the chassis. A Rack and Pinion Steering Gear is attached to all new suspension components including new Control Arms, Spindles, springs and Front Shocks. The rear axle has radius bars to keep it anchored along with the disk brakes. The interior has a full roll bar with Full Harness style seat belts in the rear seat anchored to it along with Autometer Gauges hung under the dash to keep track of everything.
But the work that was done is not up to pare. The rear brake lines lay on top of the rear suspension leaf springs, washers were used to align drag links rather than spacers and the front end, with all of its new parts, is a chapter on it’s own.
The front is lowered so far that the tires have extreme positive camber, so much that the inside of the tires are worn. There is a rack and pinion set up, new springs, new control arms and spindles, but it is not right. Either it had off set ball joints installed or the spring height is off dramatically. The clutch hydraulics need attention, if the clutch pedal is pushed all the way to the floor the pedal does not return unless you lift it with your foot or hand.
All of this and probably more needs before the car is put safely back on the street. But when it is sorted out, it is going to be a spectacular driver and the sound of it pulling gears will take you back to movies like Bullit. The owner has invested close to $30,000 in parts and labor in the past twelve years besides the car’s purchase price back in 2009 and understands it is not coming back. This is a car that needs qualified attention by someone who understands the potential and what it takes to get there properly.
