In another life I sold Import Car Parts for about ten years here in Grants Pass and had a lot of Import Car fanatics that bought all sorts of VW parts and the such. Being that was decades ago, having one of those enthusiastic customers walk through the door recently with this incredible motorcycle was almost full circle, hearing that he had gone on to restoring Porsche 356’s and motorcycle touring in the mean time. What a great journey for us both.

I am pretty sure Harley sold a billion Road Kings in 2004 and they are everywhere and very reasonable to buy as used bikes. It is hard to get excited about a Road King these days. Good bikes, but plentiful. But bikes that have been artfully created from the stock model are rare with most bikes an accumulation of after market parts available to any owner with a credit card. Creativity is a scarce community amongst Touring Types.

Not this bike. It is the passion and endless search for the perfect version of a Road King without the constraint of effort or pocket book. It is reported that the project has over $50,000 spent since new and a partial list follows.

Engine work was extensive with Screaming Eagle, Feuling and Power Commander parts added to a 1550 cc Kit from Harley making the stock power train appear anemic. The exhaust system is Rinehart and the whole package sounds and feels perfect.

The fuel tank was replaced with 6.5 Gallon Stretched Version which required a custom Corbin Seat and Seat Pan made to order. A Driver and Passenger Seat Back is included. With Steve Hodge’s help at S&D Cycle, the Rear Fender was built up from two separate new units, split down the middle, adding an 1 ½” in width to cover the 160 Avon Rear Tire. At the same time, a custom License Plate Frame was Frenched into the Fender as you can see in the images. Steve installed a set of Custom Forged Rims front and rear along with Forged Brake Calipers and Sprockets. The Front Fender was from Harley but again, wider to fit the bigger front tire comfortably. Dennis Epple did the custom paint when the medal work was done and it has to be seen in person to be appreciated. Progressive Shocks are out back with both the front and Suspension Units Chromed. Lighting and Gauges were all custom and we have receipts for all of the work done over the years including a completed 10,000 mile inspection and service report done just over 1,200 miles ago. It is staggering what you can spend over the years if you keep track of everything. I personally would not recommend it.

Miles are 50,656 and the VIN# is IHD1FYW104Y711608. The selling price is $9,995. For other interesting bikes and collectable vehicles, visit our web site http://www.automaniagp.com 541 479 8888 or come by and see us at 895 SE Gladiola Drive, Grants Pass, Oregon, 97526. Oregon Dealer DA1287.
