A Bike that Makes everyone Smile...

VIN #: WA7321185
Stock #: 1328
This is one of those stories that has to be told to understand the motorcycle, what it is and the value as it sits here at the shop today. The records date back to 1980 in Washington and stop with the last records the present owner has, an application for title in 2002, eighteen years ago. In between is the recent history of this 1966 Harley Davidson Electra Glide that I was able to piece together from receipts and records kept.

The bike was rebuilt by Keith Nunley at River City Motorcycles in Springdale, Washington starting in 1979. From what I understand, there was no title for the bike so Nunley had the Washington State DMV assign a VIN number to the frame and titled the bike as a “1980 Assembled” vehicle. Normally older Harley’s used the Engine’s Serial number as the VIN but that did not occur. The first receipt is dated 12-14-92 and was for a used Engine and 4 Speed, Engine #66FLH14039 for $3,000 from R&R Cycles of Phoenix, AZ. In December of 1993, parts were ordered from Andrews products for the transmission. Apparently it took until 1998 for the engine to be rebuilt with invoices totaling $ 3,700.00. My customer has told me that he purchased the restored bike just after the engine work was done and has had it since. Shortly after purchasing the bike, a medical issue arose that was completely dehabilating. Just 300 miles were added from the time of purchase until now and that is it. The bike sat in his living room for decades as his condition deteriorated, being fired up on occasion to satisfy his passion for the bike, but it was not ridden. A few years ago he moved and the only place for the bike was on his back porch, which is where I first saw it. Recently his condition has changed again and it is time to sell the bike.

The first thing we did was to deliver the bike to S&D Custom Cycle in Grants Pass. The fuel was drained and the float cleaned. The crankcase oil looked new and a jumper battery was used. The bike started the first try and Steve was impressed with the mechanical condition of the engine. The tires have cracks in them the depth of the Grand Canyon, most operating cables need replacement and the Carb definitely needs to be rebuilt, but after putting a new battery in it, I rode it around the neighborhood and it was great. I saw the forks seals were leaking when I parked it, so they will be in need of replacement also.

But this bike has presence. It is hard to fall in love with it at first sight.

The bike needs TLC, but it is all here, there are no missing parts, just needs a lot of polishing and upkeep. The selling price is $11,995. The VIN is WA7321185 and the bike is titled on Oregon as 1980 Assembled. Miles showing are 2,414.
