Most of us know someone that just loves bikes but has never purchased the perfect motorcycle. Usually there are bounds on their potentially unbridled enthusiasm, monetary, storage, time, inter-family opinions, peer pressure and least but not last, common sense.

Then there is my good friend and riding buddy, Russ. Somehow he has avoided all of the constraints noted above in his motorized pursuits over the decades. I mention decades because that is why his KTM’s are being sold now. Time makes us all a victim to a narrowing physical capacity, including solo single track riding through Baja and crossing the Continental Divide from Mexico to Canada.

The 690R shows 8,052 miles. It has been oil changed and serviced as needed by the selling dealer, Hansen’s BMW KTM in the day and recently by the owner. It may had a 1,000 miles added in the past five years, maybe. As part of making it the ultimate Dual Sport, a massive Safari Fuel Tank was added along with several sets of Handle Bars and Gear Sets. Russ felt the bike was a little tall for his comfort and lowered the Fork Tubes a bit and “adjusted” the side stand. He added Heated Grips for those riding days under 55 degrees. If you are familiar with the model, I am sure you will see a lot more that I missed. At age 78, Russ was a bit hard pressed to remember everything he added.
