At a point and time, Triumph was building some of the best Sport Touring Motorcycles for serious riders and enthusiasts looking for a great motor, great chassis and factory hard bags, those intending never to see a freeway or interstate on their cross country rides. The 1050 ST was the go to bike and most today have 50-60,000 miles showing on their odometers, going strong and still traveling.
The three basic designs that separated the bike from the rest were the engine, suspension and chassis. The 1050 Triple was a torque monster but narrow and light enough not to over whelm the bike. The sound of the Triple has to be heard to enjoyed and Triumph definitely wanted the world to know it was present exiting the final gases out that rocket style muffler. The suspension was well suited the weight and demands of the beam style chassis, not to harsh but suited to a rider hustling the bike through secondary roads. The brakes were unbelievable at the time, the fronts suited for slowing the mass of the bike and rider down in a controlled manner.
The locking hard bags were enough for a single rider for an extend period of time or two up packing the more basic of essentials and look part of the bike as compared to something was simply bolted on afterwards. The bike was an excellent styling event from the stacked double headlights to the hard bags and finally the LED rear light hanging above the Triple Shot Muffler. Pretty cool..
