The first time I saw a picture in a magazine of the 2017 Yamaha SCR950 it had me down at the Yamaha dealer to see one in the flesh. It reminded me of earlier Yamaha designs from the 90’s which were clean with great lines that I loved to look at. The bike just has the look.
What Yamaha did though was design the bike to be a Scrambler in the same fashion Triumph has done with their Bonneville’s. Not a blood and guts hill climb off road bike, too heavy with limited suspension travel, but one that can wear dual sport tires and let you explore gravel roads and a bit of back county exploring and still have a great driving experience once you return to the pavement. All while looking great with classic lines most high tech motorcycles cannot fathom. I guess what is best is that the bike is basically a simple layout and brings the fun factor to the table without trying to be the best at off road or on.
The engine is a 942cc V-Twin with a ton of low end grunt backed by a 6-Speed Transmission. Off Road it is predictable and for the street allows a strong pull without having to drop three gears.
And then there is our particular motorcycle showing 22 miles from new. An astute collector thought this bike would be an instant collectable and bought the bike thinking the classic looks and styling would only make it worth more then new if he held on to it for a few years. Turns out he was mistaken. It has 22 miles but it did not break the bank.
