Yamaha came out with the FZ09 series starting in 2014 and launched what many feel was a reminder of how enjoyable sportbikes were before they became financially unreachable for someone not working at a Fortune 500 Company. Being able to fork out $23,000 and more for the newest fandangle “Twistimacouphie” has crushed our countries desire and ability to own a new motorcycle and sharing the experience all of us have taken for granted the past fifty years.
The FZ’s 120-degree Crossplane-crank three-cylinder engine, controlled fill die-cast aluminum chassis and $8,995 price tag made an attractive and great motorcycle affordable. 2017 models resolved some minor issues from the 2014-2016 models, making it even better Swiss Army Knife of a motorcycle. They flew off the show room floors unlike similar Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki bikes that sat collecting dust. The best part was that they were reliable and did not require having the dealer’s service department on speed dial unlike their European counterparts.
Our particular bike was bought brand new and accessorized to fit the specifications of the owner, including the Yamaha Center Stand. The Seat Concept Saddle replaced the stock unit, a rear Fender Extender and Luggage Rack were added to the rear. Shortie Brake and Clutch levers were installed along with Seal Saver on the front Forks. Engine Guards surround the motor and an oversized Side Stand Foot installed.
Retirement promised many miles of riding and use until medically issues arose, the bike being sold a product of these events along with his other bikes.
