Let’s cut to the chase. Scooters are not motorcycles. Motorcycles can take you almost anywhere you want to go in relative comfort with economy, comfort and power, allowing you to keep up with traffic and travel across our Freeway System. Scooters are a weak substitute at best.
Well normally. There is the Suzuki Bergman, BMW C650 and its ilk, but smaller scooters scare the heck out of you approaching Freeway Speeds. And then there is the Piaggio X9 500ie. 500cc’s of CVT pulling power and you will not be afraid to go at it for Pink Slips with Dodge Mini Vans and the rest at Stop Lights. It really gets out it’s way when you roll on the gas. It is much longer then most of the bred and has larger diameter wheels and tires which add measurably to its rolling stability at speed. It has real suspension parts and full sized Brakes to take advantage of the larger tires. It hauls the mail, allowing the best of both worlds, motorcycle and scooter.
Storage is under the seat, big enough to hold a bag of groceries or a change of clothes and tooth brush. The seating position is very comfortable with running boards for your feet. The saddle is big enough for two up riding and the rest of the bike suited to do so. What a tool!
Unfortunately, the nose got a little close to something solid while moving forward slowly. The front fender and nose got a bit of a bruising. Neither bits of damage affect the driving condition or safety of the Scooter as long as you kept the sustained speeds under 100mph.
