1982 Jeep 1982 Jeep CJ8 Scrambler
Grants Pass, Oregon 97526
Price: $18,695 USD - PREVIOUSLY SOLD

In a time long ago, Automania was in the middle of the Off Road frenzy of the late 90’s. Not to say it was starting or peaking then, but it was our first successful on line Internet business. We learned the hard way how much work it was and went on to selling lots of parts, all at the same time, in the form of complete motorcycles and cars of interest.

When this 1982 Jeep CJ8 Scrambler came down the driveway, it was déjà, taking me back 10 years to when the Rubicon and Moab were an annual misadventure of broken parts and bad morning head aches. But this Jeep is totally different from the rigs we were building, it screamed CUBIC “$’s”. Just looking underneath revealed a Dana 44 disk brake front end with an ARB locker air line attached. Looking straight up was a Ford 4.6 OHC V-8 with a AOD Automatic with a Divorced Dana 300 Transfer Case coupled by an Advanced Adapter 4:1 Rubicrawler Crawler Case. Looking back, the rear end was a Dana 60 with Disk Brakes, also with an ARB Locker installed. Both the Differential Ratios are 4:10’s. The frame rails have been boxed as are the rear Spring Perches. I can’t say they are the prettiest welds I have seen but there are plenty of them. The lift is only springs and perches, the body is stock height on the frame. Best thing to do is look at the images to get an idea of how much is here.

Looking from on top was almost as much fun. Under the hood is a 2000 Ford Cobra 4.6 OHC Fuel Injected V-8. I have never seen this engine in a Jeep, everyone does 350 Chevys. The Scrambler Body is straight and we found one of two spots of minor surface rust, but nothing serious and no perforations. The body alone is reason enough to be excited about the truck. The bed has been shot with a Rhino Liner coating with adjustable Advanced Bedliner Rail Tie Downs bolted everywhere. The interior has custom dash panels with switches and controls, again you can see them in the images. Tires are almost new 38” Nitto Mud Grappler Extreme Terrain’s. Bumpers are custom and it looks to have had a winch on the front at one time.

The current owner has had the CJ for three years. She bought it on eBay after a long evening of “refreshments” and while browsing randomly at lifted trucks and Jeeps. It was shipped from Florida and upon arrival, the ether quickly wore off. Check out the custom Oregon License Plates, 1 2MANY (they do not come with the Scrambler), a reflection of her condition when hitting the BID key repeatedly until winning the sale. In the 3 years of ownership, the Jeep has covered about 1000 miles, never been off road or wheeled. We have receipts for money spent sorting out issues and service since it’s arrival in Oregon.

So what does all of this add up too? A lot of very expensive new parts were used in the building of the Scrambler. Just do the math, it has to be over $15,000 in parts besides the actual reconditioning of the CJ. The builder was someone that was handy with tools but not a professional welder. Everything is working except for the driving lights and the lights on the roll bar. One of the shops that did a minor tune on the engine last year said it best, that it was a great truck with tons of great parts, it just needed someone to pull it back together again, he figured about $1000 if it was brought back. There is nothing that requires a professional shop, but someone with basic skills, time and materials can have an unbelievable rig in this CJ8 when it is finished once again.
