You probably do not want to hear about my bike trips but my dad rode one of these F650GS’s to Oaxaca, Mexico, and back, about sixteen years ago when he was 73. That WAS a long ride. The Rotax engine in these bikes have a reputation for being bullet proof and normally going up to 100,000 miles. That is a lot for a single. The bike is very light and if you are looking to do fire roading or camping as part of your motorcycle trips, there is no better mount.
This particular bike was chosen very carefully by it’s owner for all of the above reasons and then improved upon with top of the line accessories to be a complete Adventure Package capable of traveling challenging paths while carrying adequate luggage in comfort. The rider was shorter in stature and the seat was custom ordered to improve reach to the pavement. Besides the factory ABS and Heated Grips, the bike now has a Garmin GPS, that Custom Saddle which lowers the seat height by at least an inch (the stock seat is included with the motorcycle) Pivot Pegz Pegs, all as an aid to the comfort of it’s driver. There are a set of Jesse Aluminum Bags and mounts, a BMW Factory Tail Box and a Wolfman Tank Bag to carry just about all you would need on a long trip. There are another set of tires which are intended for more aggressive off roading which come with the bike. We have a great deal of documentation for the accessories that were added to the bike including a recently installed chain. The Brake Lights have been augmented by a LED Flashing system that really lets the following traffic see your intentions.
