This 2012 BMW F800GS “Black” model has to be the best bike BMW is putting out at the moment for the serious nuts and bolts rider. It is the modern version of the earlier air cooled twins, bullet proof, simple and light. It has all of the modern features we have come to expect such as FI, ABS and heated grips plus real suspension without the bulk of some “Dual Purpose” Teutonic wonders on the market today. Every time I get a chance to ride one of these, Gonzaga Bay in Mexico comes to mind and about how great it is there in January.
This bike has all of the features come to expect on a GS including the ESA option that allows dampening changes on the fly. Of course ABS Brakes, Heated Grips but also a bunch of factory accessory parts that serve the bike well. The bike is equipped with both Aluminum Cases and the Aluminum Top Box and the mounting system from BMW, all keyed alike to the ignition.
There is the Bash Plate under the motor, strong enough to take a hit or two but not so heavy it makes the bike unwieldy. The bike wears my favorite Dual Purpose Tires, Heidenaus, which work well enough in the dirt, killer on asphalt and last longer then almost anything else on the market today. The bike has just under 16,000 miles showing is ready for the next 70,000 with a full service history at Hansen’s BMW in Medford. The rear chain was just replaced along with an oil and filter change which we have the receipt for.
