The 2008 R1200R is the closest thing to a R100/7 I have seen in years. It has the simplicity and look of the older bike but with the new drive train, modern tire sizes, heated grips and ABS Brakes. This is the standard motorcycle that does it all, all of comfort and options of the RT but without the weight and bulk of a full on touring bike. What this bike does is provide a great around town bike that is light enough to do slow traffic and easy to park when the time comes. The flip side of that it is that it is also a great touring motorcycle with all of the drive train features of the R1200RT with none of the bulk that the bodywork which lifts the center of gravity and weights the front end, all great features for interstate cruising and moderate spirited riding but not the choice for the small secondary roads that make up the Northwest great riding roads. This particular bike has a pretty interesting history. It has covered twice as many miles showing on the odometer in moving vans since it was bought new at Max’s BMW in New Hampshire. From there it was moved to North Carolina, again in a van until being shipping once more to the San Francisco Bay Area. Next trip was again in a van, this time to Southern Oregon where it has been serviced and looked after by Hansen’s BMW as needed.
