This is one of those great motorcycle hero stories, not because of what the bike did, but how the owner handled himself as the story unfolded. About four months ago a recently “retired” Google program developer came to realize what the software industry can take from you for the sake of a paycheck. In his early thirties, it was time to make his own life including fulfilling some aspects of his bucket list. Wandering the West Coast was easily obtainable and by motorcycle was the pinnacle of decisions. Excepting it was now late fall.

He purchased the bike at the local BMW Dealer in Denver, Colorado with less than 3,500 miles on it. The original buyer bought it new and over a period of ten years did not even put enough miles on to break it in. Fluids were changed every year, but the bike was never ridden. Time wore him out and the bike was finally delivered to the dealer to be sold with new tires installed.

Our customer fell in love and started his ride of a life time. Within a couple of weeks he realized that he was not having the best of times. It was cold and wet which does not sound like all that much fun. He rode to the Eugene BMW Dealer to sell it, which they did not do, called Hansen’s BMW who then referred him to us. And down he came. After squeezing as much rain water out of his gear as possible, we took him to a car rental agentcy where he got a four door sedan with heat and a radio. He continued on with his adventure, recognizing that had the motorcycle ride continued, it would have been a battle with no cause. We heard back from him just recently and it turned out to be a great experience. He is home and now the bike is here to be sold.

The bike is wonderful. Just 6,146 miles from delivery. It was serviced in Colorado and an oil change completed less then 300 miles ago locally. It is equipped with the BMW Vario Expanding Saddle Bags, a Remus Full Exhaust System, Tinted Wind Screen, BMW Tank Bag and Custom Driver’s Seat. The bike is the final and best version of the single cam motor from BMW, an engine that with normal service can exceed 100,000 miles of service. It is electronically simple compared to the newest offerings and is no more complicated to service than an old air-cooled Volkswagen.
