The 2009 R1200R is the closest thing to a R100/7 I have seen in years. It has the simplicity and look of the older bike but with the new drive train, modern tire sizes, heated grips and ABS Brakes. This is the standard motorcycle that does it all, all of comfort and options of the RT but without the weight and bulk of a full on touring bike. What this bike does is provide a great around town bike that is light enough to do slow traffic and easy to park when the time comes. The flip side of that it is that it is also a great touring motorcycle with all of the drive train features of the R1200RT with none of the bulk that the bodywork which lifts the center of gravity and weights the front end, all great features for interstate cruising and moderate spirited riding but not the choice for the small secondary roads that make up the Northwest great riding roads. One of the great options that was available and rarely ordered with this bike is ESA, Electronic Suspension Adjustment along with ABS, Heated Grips and Hard Bags. The dampening front and rear can be adjusted on the fly and the rear spring preload adjusted, but while the bike is parked and in neutral. How slick is that? It has new tires recently installed at Hansen’s BMW and is ready to go anywhere you point it (except for Canada!).
