BMW motorcycles have been the ultimate high speed touring platforms for decades and the K1200GT is the ultimate statement from BMW on what that modern mount should be. After a short (normally long) trip to Medford and back, no one would argue that they missed the mark by an inch. On the other hand, those sorts of jaunts have the enviable conclusion of an extended conversation with an employee of the City, County or State driving a car traveling just a little faster then you were and the sharing of a corresponding citation.

This 2008 K1200GT has always been fully service by the BMW dealer, loaded with all the factory options and normal accessories. The tires appear to have about 2000 miles on them. Along with ABS Brakes, Paralever rear Suspension, Duolever Front Suspension, Electronic Brake Assist, options include ESA Suspension (Electronic Suspension Adjustment), Hard Bags, Heated Seat, Headed Hand Grips, Cruise Control and the on board Computer telling you when you should be feeling hot or cold. The last one GT I rode, it was down to 42 degrees. I plugged in my electric jacket, fired the seat warmer to high, switched the Heated Grips to the low setting and raised the Electronically Controlled Windscreen to create a pocket of still air. It was perfect. I was able to pay full attention to “all” the traffic without suffering the symptoms of hypothermia.

The one non-factory option included with the bike is the Rick Mayer custom seats that incorporate the BMW Heated Seat feature. Also is the Sargent Super Bag on top of the gas tank. The bike does not need anything except a direction to be headed in. If you are looking for a great commuter bike or a long distance mount, you will not find anything better. It is an “Autobahn Terror” in a 3 piece suit.
