BMW motorcycles have been the ultimate high speed touring platforms for decades and the K1200GT is the ultimate statement from BMW on what that modern mount should be. This is what I wrote about the last K1200GT ride I took. “After a short (normally long) trip to Medford and back, no one would argue that they missed the mark by an inch. On the other hand, those sorts of jaunts have the enviable conclusion of an extended conversation with an employee of the City, County or State driving a car traveling just a little faster then you were and the sharing of a corresponding citation”. Still cannot describe riding the bike any better!

This 2008 K1200GT was sold new by Hansen’s that is cosmetically almost new. It has always been fully serviced by the BMW dealer. Before being brought in for us to offer it for sale, oils were changed and two new Michelin tires were installed.

Along with ABS Brakes, Paralever rear Suspension, Duolever Front Suspension, Electronic Brake Assist, options include ESA Suspension (Electronic Suspension Adjustment), Hard Bags, Heated Seat, Headed Hand Grips, Cruise Control and the on board Computer telling you when you should be feeling hot or cold. The morning of my ride it was down to 42 degrees. I plugged in my electric jacket, fired the seat warmer to high, switched the Heated Grips to the low setting and raised the Electronically Controlled Windscreen to create a pocket of still air. It was perfect. I was able to pay full attention to “all” the traffic without suffering the symptoms of hypothermia.

The bike does not need anything except a direction to be headed in having just had a major service, including replacement of the timing chain and guides, done at Hansen’s BMW. If you are looking for a great commuter bike or a long distance mount, you will not find anything better. It is an “Autobahn Terror” in a 3 piece suit.
