The expression Naked Bike has always confused me. The bikes I rode in the day all looked similar to what the nomenclature used today describes but we just called them bikes because there was nothing attached other than the bars. But BMW has always had a standard version of what ever model it sold and final buckled and started refereeing to some models as “Naked Bikes”. Good to be current.
The F800R is the poster child for the Naked Bike class of motorcycles. There is nothing added or bolted on to detract from its purpose as a motorcycle. How does that make anyone’s day better? Weight! And what fights fun more on a motorcycle? Weight! Not only does the F800R weigh less, the weight is lower than a motorcycle with a fairing and other touring accessories. The very thing that would prevent you from thinking about busting the F800R out for a cross country trip is the very thing that makes it a joy to ride your favorite passes and roads. Then there is the obvious, it cost less because there is less.
The 798cc Twin size and weight compare to most 600cc standard bikes being offered but it obviously has more power. ABS Brakes do a great job and the bike came standard with Heated Grips. Everything I read about the bike starts with how well it handles and the quality of the riding experience.
Our bike has had recent services done at Hansen’s BMW including the chain being replaced, valves adjusted and a fluid swap. The rear tire appears to have less than 1,000 miles on it and we installed a brand new tire before offering it up for sale.
