1986 Kawasaki KLR 600

Most us of dream of coming across a barn full of older, low mileage, unmolested motorcycles or cars, it rarely occurs and always someone else found it first or paid nothing for it because the owner had no idea of the worth. Truth is there are unmolested, older rigs out there, but in the world of the internet, nothing gets pass a search engine looking for values and scarcity.
This 1986 Kawasaki KLR 600 comes with the title which was last transferred in June of 1986 showing 1,086 miles at that time. It has been in the same family since and now shows 9,160 miles. Cosmetically the bike is completely original as far as I was able to see, including the tool pouch with tools and owner’s manual. The bike was owned to be ridden and definitely not polished after every use, but there are no signs of impact or abuse. The worse part I could find was one of the blinker stalks has given up the ghost and is split.
The bike is a bear to cold start if it has sat for a couple of days. The electric start works great, it just does not want to start cold. Once it has been running and warmed up, it restarts perfectly and runs without stumbling. The clutch and brakes have normal feel and the front forks felt stock in action. If you look at the images I took, you will see the bike is pretty honest and straight forward, the only issue is going to be the cold starting. It may have been this way new, back in the day everyone was leaning Carbs out trying to emissions friendly. There used to be a huge industry of Carb Kits and Tuners for motorcycles, this maybe an example of why.
