The 2010 Kawasaki Z1000 was a new frame and engine update from the previous year’s models. Kawasaki was looking to lead the “Naked Bike” segment that the Europeans had been dominating and other Japanese manufactures were soon chasing. “Naked Sportbike” or what has come to be called Sport-Standards were a reaction to the overly focused Sportbikes (or Superbikes) that almost everyone wanted in the hay-day of AMA Superbike Racing prior to Roger Edmonson running the series into the ground with help from the France Family.
The reality of that much weight in your wrists and arms while riding on the street soon wore most folks out. It is hard to do a 250 mile day street ride on a Sportbike. Ask anyone that has done one if they would have preferred to do it on a Standard instead or not. Sportbikes were intended to be proficient and uncompromising at the track, the street is where most of us spend our time and most of us figured out which was a better tool to bring to the table.
The 2010 Kawasaki Z1000 has sit-up seating, no fairing and less plastic overall, but started out as much more sportbike oriented. The riding position is spacious, comfortable and friendly along with a 136bhp liquid-cooled, fuel-injected 1043cc inline-four-cylinder engine. Fueled and ready to go it weights 481 pounds with a seat that allows a 29 inch inseam to flat foot it at a rest.
Our bike has a couple of tasteful accessories, a Two Brother’s Exhaust System, Shortie Levers and Mirror stalk Extensions.
