1954 Chevrolet 3100
Price: $29,995 USD - PREVIOUSLY SOLD
Over the decades of selling restored motorcycles, cars and trucks the most common statement made by our consignors is that what they hope for is the cost of the restoration and that the car or bike is basically free. Looking through the invoices on this 1954 Chevrolet 3100 3-Window it could not be any more true.
Our consignor bought the truck to be used for his long time Saturday Market Vegetable Business in Ashland, Oregon. He believed it to be the perfect advertising vehicle for his business that would attract buyers and folks to talk about the truck and hopefully buy produce. The best plans sometimes run into ruts and now facing a complete change of life style and the closing of his work, the truck is no longer needed and is to be sold.
Originally a California State Utility Truck, the 3100 was complete but in need of extensive body work as can be seen in the images take when it was bare medal. Receipts include several new replacement body panels, all part of the complete restoration by PMR Auto Fab of Elk Grove, California in 2018. Supplied with the truck is a thick and complete stack of all work and parts that went into the frame off rebuild. New glass, new interior, new brakes, a rebuilt transmission (a receipt for a transmission gasket set is included), a reconditioned stock 6-Cylinder engine, the list goes on for pages. One of the stand out’s of the build is the quality of the body work. The doors close perfectly, everything is lined up, and paint was applied with the glass out. It is really well done.
The customer who hired PMR wanted it to return it to its utility condition by installing the state equipment including shovels, Jerry Cans, Gun Rack and other items the truck carried in period. He asked the body shop not to fill any holes or mounting points when the bodywork was being completed, just to make it straight and totally original as possible. They did really good work and the truck presents extremely well.
A stock engine was sourced and it’s head removed for reconditioning. Oil pressure was checked at 40-60 pounds and compression was 120-125 across the board. Components that needed replacement were attended too and it was cosmetically reconditioned before being installed as you can see in the images, all good. The transmission is assumed to have been inspected and repaired, there are receipts for a transmission gasket set. Our consignor had the rear end completely rebuilt recently at Dusty’s Transmissions in Medford. Brakes are new and have been just recently inspected and adjusted. The one item that had not been done to a high standard when he bought the restored truck was the pickup bed. Our consignor milled Madrone Hardwood from his property and used those planks for the truck bed floor. It is an amazing wood, harder than nails with beautiful grain.
An important factor to buyers coming from out of the state is the VIN number reflected on our clear Oregon Title. The VIN used is located on the right side of the Engine block as can be seen in our images. There is a VIN plate on the left door pillar, but apparently the method of attachment was not acceptable to the California DMV when issuing the original title previously. It was also satisfactorily titled in Oregon using the VIN stamped on the right side of the engine, just as it had been titled in California. Please check with your State’s DMV authorities that this VIN location is not any form of issue that would prevent titling and registering where you reside, I am not experienced with other states DMV policies other than Oregon where the title is legal and acceptable.
The selling price is $29,995, probably just about what the restoration cost. The VIN# is 0963089F54U and miles showing are 99,995. Please come by and see at Automania LLC, 895 SE Gladiola Drive, Grants Pass, OR 97526. http://www.automaniagp.com 541 479 8888 Oregon Dealer DA1297.
