This 1980 Suzuki GS1100 holds numerous awards for its builder, Don Mills of Grants Pass. Don is a long time friend and motorcycle enthusiast who mentioned selling his race bike a couple of years ago because he works out of a single car garage that not only holds his bikes but a compressor and all of his tools and spare parts. No wonder Don has kept himself so thin!!!

Well, it is with reluctance that the bike is being offered. Don is getting a bit older and the effort and money needed to compete are taking the shine off of continued racing. What Don did tell me was that were two more records that could be had just by turning up and doing the runs with this bike. Pretty tempting. Below is a transcription of Don’s own words which he wrote when he first thought of selling the bike. Interesting read from a builder and racer talking about his bike:

I have set six AMA Landspeed Records with this bike in six attempts.

I have been racing at Bonneville since 2004, this is the third bike I have built and all have set records- one F.I.M. World Record and thirteen AMA National Records. This bike is the culmination of 17 years of Landspeed Racing.

The engine is a 1327cc with 10:1 Forged Pistons, Ported Cylinder Head with oversize stainless steel Valves, Web Cams, HD Valve Springs and hard welded Rockers, Vortex overhead Oiling, high output oil Pump Gears, manual Cam Chain Tensioner, Electronic Ignition, high output Coils, Plug Wires and a Dyna Rev Limiter. The Carbs are 36mm Mikuni Flat Slides with a Vance and Hines exhaust system. Behind all of this, the Transmission has had a recent rebuild and now with back cut gears.

I spent a winter smoothing the frame before having it powder coated. All of the bolts and nuts have been polished and or replaced with stainless steel. The paint is base coat/clear coat. The numbers and letter are vinyl stickers, easily removed or replaced.'



The bike was purchased in Washington state as a street legal motorcycle with a good title. It can be titled again as a street legal motorcycle, but it is not legal for the street in it’s current condition. There are no lights, no blinkers, no front brake and no brake light. It is not legal to drive on the street but it can be titled and registered anywhere in the country.
