I was told that the 450 SLC was intended by Mercedes as a platform to race when it was being designed as a production vehicle (C107) based on the SL R107 roadster platform underpinnings. Seems like a stretch until you start looking around the internet to see all of the variations that were turned out for competition. The SLC received rave reviews and was considered by many to be the better car of the two. I found several images of race and rally cars that were based on the 450 SLC and included a couple in the galley.

Our local car was the pride and joy of a local business owner I knew for over 35 years who recently passed. He would wax on and on about his 450 SLC and the joy of ownership and pride he had in the car. At some point he had the car painted and it has held up very well. There is body kit that was on it or he added, I am not sure, but it appears that it has European Headlights installed along with the rear wing and fender moldings. There is a folder with extensive service from a local shop along with the owner’s manual. There are sheep skin seat covers that have what some would refer to as patina, I have not looked underneath them to inspect the seats.

One of the most common issues with the SLC’s was rust and as you can see looking at the images under the car, it is pretty much non-existent. The car is not perfect, it is an older Mercedes that was looked after but still driven daily. It would appear that in the day a large stereo system was installed professionally. The car starts and drives well, the transmission shifts smoothly and the brakes stop the car without any surprises. The speedometer is working but the odometer has taken a powder and therefore the mileage is unknown. It will make a great driver for someone who appreciates the model and what it was in the day, taking their time to sort out the minor issues the car has today.

The selling price is $6,895. VIN# 10702412014573 and miles are unknown. For other interesting bikes and collectable vehicles, visit our web site http://www.automaniagp.com , 541 479 8888 or come by and see us at 895 SE Gladiola Drive, Grants Pass, Oregon, 97526. Oregon Dealer DA1287
