2016 Honda VFR1200X
Price: $9,995 USD - PREVIOUSLY SOLD
This is the first Honda VFR1200X I have ever seen, much less knew were sold in the US. A V4 engine as a “Crosstourer” motorcycle, sort of a cross between an Adventure bike and Sport Touring mount. What a great drive train! I rode the bike to Rogue River and back and loved it but you will have to fiddle with the traction control level and suspension damping to make it your bike.
The bike came out at the same time as the Africa Twin which sucked up most of the attention that year for the Honda line. The bike was never intended to perform the same tasks as the Africa Twin, BMW GS or KTM but catered to what most of those bikes end up being, great long distance Touring motorcycles with long travel suspension that normally see off road use maybe 2% of the time, the rest on secondary roads and mountain passes where their wide handle bars and strong engines and luggage carrying capacity are a rider’s dream escape. The VFR just did not pretend to be anything else than that, it is way too heavy for real dirt adventuring despite the look.
The bike was one of the first Honda Electronic Suite models incorporating Throttle by Wire, ABS, Traction Control and different riding Modes selected by the rider by switches mounted on the bar ends. Traction control had 3 Modes to choose from, the ABS was on or off only. The V4 is probably one of Honda’s best power plants, you can leave in almost any gear and it pulls like an electric motor. I have always had a weakness for their V4’s starting with the Interceptor back in the 80’s, what a great engine.
The one aspect that may narrow the appeal of the bike is the height and overall weight. If you are inseam challenged or struggle with balance, this is not the bike for you. Once rolling it is absolutely amazing. I am not sure how great the windscreen will be for long distance, but on the freeway, it did not cause any buffeting for me. The owner has installed Tourtech Front Fork Springs, Honda’s electric Handle Bar Grips and GIVI mounting Hardware with Hard Bags.
Miles are 7,806 and the VIN# JH2SC7607GK000230. The selling price is $9,995. For other interesting bikes and collectable vehicles, visit our web site http://www.automaniagp.com. Call 541 479 8888 or come by and see us at 895 SE Gladiola Drive, Grants Pass, Oregon, 97526. Oregon Dealer DA1287.
