One of the unfortunate facts of Mike Canepa passing away is that he took with him the history and specific information about the motorcycles he had been holding on to for decades. It has been a challenge to uncover some of the brands and models that Mike owned and we have done so pretty successfully with over twenty-five bikes sold.
The Aprilia RSV Mille SP was a homologation special produced for Aprilia to enter the Superbike World Championship. The minimum requirement was for 150 bikes which how many Aprilia sold. Our bike is #15.
SP stands for Sport Production, and this is one of the rarest Aprilia’s ever made. Built around the 60 degree V-Twin, the bike utilized a special version of the engine built in collaboration with tuning house Cosworth. In combination with the exhaust, power was bumped to 150 horsepower. Chassis rigidity increased 20%, and certain aftermarket vendors were tapped including Ohlins and Brembo for suspension and brakes. As was the case with everything Mike owned, a larger set of Brembo Rotors were installed with a custom Caliper Hanger to match.
Miles are 2,328 but without Mike to verify it, the miles are assumed. The bike was dropped on the right side and the tank was damage and the exhaust hanger broken and rewelded. It starts right up and was being ridden on the street up to the point of Mike’s demise.
