Over the years we have had several of the Aprilia Scarabeo 200’s to be sold and as a Scooter, I thought it was the best of all worlds, a Scooter riding position and storage but with larger wheels, bigger brakes, suspension to match. It was a Scooter that rode a bit like a motorcycle.

When this particular bike came in last spring with less than 1,000 miles on it, I made the choice to finally own one and bought it with the intent of commuting or running occasionally to the store. It was almost perfect and Red was the right color. With 200cc’s, it gets up goes and I really enjoyed riding it around town rather than my huge R1200GS. The seating position was sitting up right, your feet are directly below you and there is enough storage under the seat for a Helmet. The not so important part was the fuel mileage, reported to be over 70mpg!

I rode the bike for the first week but it ended up parked next to the GS which got a lot more use. I have a rule that I will not own more motorcycles than I have Battery Tenders for and this fall, I am short one Tender. Something has to go and sadly it is the Aprilia. It needs nothing, has full tank of clear, treated fuel and current tags. Someday it will be missed.
