Over the course of 30 years being involved with CLASS Motorcycle Schools I have met hundreds of dedicated track riders who loved experiencing their own “edge” in a safe, non-event environment the school provided. One such person was a local Ducati enthusiast everyone called JD who attended most of the NW schools and Bay Area events over the years.

The bike he rode for most of these track day events was his 1996 Ducati 900SS SP, #SP D55 which he bought brand new off the show room floor.

As with most things JD did, he became immersed not only in the art of riding but also with the elements beyond the track, the selection and installation of aftermarket items designed to enhance the stock motorcycle. Not wanting to be a victim to the timing and efficiency of others, JD also became proficient with the up keep and servicing, not just oil changes and chain replacements but serious, proactive upkeep.

Time is catching up to everyone and the riding position on the 900 is too aggressive these days to be comfortable for aging joints and bones. The heads were recently sent to Moto Corsa in Portland for lash adjustment and new belts installed while JD was assembling them to the engine. Moto Corsa made note that the exhaust guides have wear and will need to be serviced within the next 5,000 miles. That is a lot of track days.

There is an impressive list of top of the line Improvements, Extra Parts including track day body work and the Tools to allow a new owner to continue maintenance if they are so inclined. From a quote JD sent:

“Ducati, turning riders into mechanics since 1949”.

The last thing I asked JD when we picking the bike up if he had ever crashed or damaged the bike. He was a very clear “no”! Never been down, never crashed.
