This 1973 Jeep CJ5 was purchased by its present owner in 1976 and garage kept since. The idea behind the purchase was to allow him to go hunting and many of the 45,442 actual miles were added while being towed behind his pickup during these camping events.

At 2,800 pounds and without a Locking Steering Column, it was a simple matter to tow the Jeep, drop the tow bar, hook up the lights, put everything in Neutral, Unlock the Hubs and be off.

This 1973 CJ5 was ordered with the AMC 304 V-8 backed with thier 3-Speed manual Transmission. The stock differentials were Dana’s the Transfer Case is a Dana 20 and remains as supplied by Jeep in the day. Power Steering was not included or AC. What is interesting is that the stock factory Air Pump is still installed and working. Normally someone cuts the belt and the pumps are seized. What was a surprise on the Jeep is that there is no factory tail gate.

It is pretty much stock and original except for a repaint in the original color done prior to the purchase in 1976. A Jeep Levi Soft Top purchased just after buying the CJ and remains to this day. The windows are pretty fogged from aging which makes keeping an eye on traffic a challenge. The interior is stock and in very good order. There are no holes dug in the dash for extra gauges and the only addition I saw was a Midland CB mounted between the seats. Service over the past 48 years included a clutch done some time in the 90’s, brakes done in just after the turn of the century and tires replaced about 2010. There was an oil change less than 1000 miles ago.

As mentioned, the CJ was garage kept and on blocks. An image was sent showing it in their garage which I have included. I drove the Jeep for images and it will instantly remind anyone driving in the 70’s of how much bottom end the 304 had. Everything was incredibly smooth in operation, not new but extremely well preserved. There was a minor rumble in the drivetrain about 30 mph but it maybe just flat spotted tires from sitting.
