I opened a parts store in 1980 on Rogue River Highway and soon met the “Pin Stripper” in Grants Pass. He did really great work, mostly on big Rigs all over the county, long before Computers and Vinyl was the way to go. Eventually he ended up being the center of most the Hot Rod builders in the Valley, painting, building cars or just being the artistic guide and designer for some of the more inspired builds. Almost forty years later, he is still at it, but only painting on canvas anymore, no more cars or creations, just an easel and brushes.

I have watched him accumulate a yard full of finished and half finished cars over the decades only to suddenly decide that he was done so they all had to go, on several occasions. He just got overwhelmed and did not want to go an inch further.

He called me up the other day for an appraisal on a 1929 Model A Sedan Delivery he had just sold and while there, asked if we could sell his 1948 Ford Coupe that he was not driving anymore. Long story made short, this was the second ‘48 Ford he had had, the first getting sold to someone who made an offer he could not refuse. His wife was “disappointed” that their driver was gone, leaving them with nothing to use for Rod runs and shows. Realizing the error of his ways, he found another car about twelve years ago and set to building another Cruiser.

Slow forward to now and the car is being sold along with everything else. It has been sitting in the shop for a bit so we changed the oil and had it cleaned, but other than that, it is as we got it. The AC blows cold, the 350 Chevy and Auto work great, the Camaro Front Clip and Brakes are really good and the car extremely solid. It was a daily driver and about 14,000 miles were put on it over the years, not a fresh build. Signs of use and wear add to the general personality of the car making it a ride you would not mind going anywhere, short or long distance. It is the Anti-Trailer Queen and will make them blush.
