The most common impression we hear about the 2001 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage Volante Convertible as customers walk in is that it is absolutely the most beautiful Grand Tourer they have ever seen.
Ford Motor Company had purchased Aston Martin in 1988 and began reinventing the company as a builder of exclusive cars capable of competing with BMW, Mercedes and Porsche, from an engineering perspective and a quality of production level.
The 5.9 Liter V-12 was engineered by Tom Walkinshaw’s TWR Group and was reputed to produce 420hp running through a ZF 5-Speed Automatic transmission. Top speed for the convertible version of the car was limited to 165mph with a 0-60 time of 5 seconds flat. In total, 7091 DB7s were built including the Volante Convertibles.
New, the Vantage Volante Convertibles were priced at $153,000 in 2001. Our customer purchased his car in 2012 and has all of the service invoices from the past 12,000 miles he has driven the car including replacing all of the coil packs awhile back, apparently a common issue when the cars were new. The car has absolutely no rust or signs of accident or repairs and is cosmetically excellent. A quick drive to Rogue River and back on I-5 brought back the reality of where the car really shines. Traffic was moving along a bit faster then the speed limit where the car felt completely at home. What an unbelievable driver. I found reports of effortlessly cruising across Europe at 120mph on 1000 mile jaunts by journalists reviewing the car which is no surprise.
