I knew if we stayed open long enough I would get an early MG in for sale. It finally came true and of all the MG’s that I would have hoped for, this 1952 TD is everything I wished for. The car is in remarkable condition. Obviously someone spent a great deal of time and money at one point that shows looking over and under the car. Our customer had very little information about the restoration and work done to the car. What they were told when the purchased the car in Klamath Falls is that the restoration work done had been completed at least twenty-five years prior. If this is the case, the work done in the day was remarkable. The car shows beautifully and drives well as too be expected.

But it should be noted the car was purchased apart and because of this, the Utah DMV assigned a Branded Title when it was completed and registered.

Without rehashing all of the dilemmas facing post war Britain’s attempts of balancing the Marshall Plan’s economic revitalization program, the British vehicle industry became one of the most important avenues of creating export revenue to offset the US’s aid pouring into Britain and Europe after the war. What ever was available mechanically prior to WW 11 was repurposed and reinvented to attract the largest export market, the USA.

I know just enough about TD’s to show how really little that is. Reading up on the history of the TD, it had an updated version of the previous model TC’s engine which it in fact it shared with the 1939 Morris Ten Series M sedan. The TD received independent front suspension and was the first of the post war models to be offered with left hand drive. During the initial introduction in 1950 the public reaction to the car was that MG had neutered the model, offering rack and pinion steering, 15” disk still wheels instead of 19” wires. As it turned out they had made it more rational and the sales success in the US was as predicted where almost 80% of the cars were sold over the years. The biggest complaint among American buyers was the 12 volt electrical system. 6 volt systems were the norm with domestic vehicles.

I drove our car for images and was pleasantly surprised at how well everything worked. The car starts well, the transmission was easy to get use too and it stopped. But that is the only time that the small foot well got my full attention, that large feet will struggle to find adequate room working the different pedals.

For a better understanding of this car, please look at the images under the car, it is in remarkable shape for the reported time period since the restoration was completed. What a great car.

But it should be noted the car was purchased apart and because of this, the Utah DMV assigned a Branded Title when it was completed and registered.
