I have the ultimate wish full filled here at work. I have four Ford Model A’s in the building, each a different vision of what a Model can be, from extreme Hot Rods to this stock 1928 Two Door Sedan. The only problem has been keeping Dave H. away from it so he cannot chop the top 4”!

This particular car was purchased locally in “challenged condition” by it’s owner in 2012. The body was removed from the chassis and a frame up refurbishment untaken. It was a tough job, but one that passion and patience overcame common sense in terms of time and effort.

The frame was repaired where needed, the front axle aligned and the rear axle replaced when the original was found to have worn pinion bearings. The transmission was too tired to be rebuilt, so a trip to BJ’s Model A Parts and Service provide a good used unit which turned out to be the first of several visits to Bill’s shop over the course of the build. While disassembling the engine in the car, several cracks were found in the block, so a good used motor was sourced which was taken to BJ’s, taken apart, inspected and completely rebuilt it with idea that it would run for ever!

The body was sand blasted and rust was found in the right front quarter panel and little else, which in the Model A world is a rarity. Replacement panels were welded in, dents and previous damage smoothed out completely and the car put in primer just as Bill finished up the motor. With the engine in the chassis, the body wood was replaced as needed, the chicken wire, padding and vinyl replaced in the roof. After painting, the body was reinstalled on the chassis and the interior attended too. Lee Canterton supplied the interior kit and with his wife’s assistance, they did a great job doing the recovering and installation. Almost a year to the day after bringing the car home, it was finished in 2013.

Fast forward six years and there have been lifestyle changes which will include a lot of downsizing including sell the car and a Model T. Tires are brand new with less than twenty miles on them. I drove the car and have to say it is a remarkably good driving Model A. You can see in the images the work that went into the chassis and engine. Paint is not a show winner, but it is in good order and should give years of enjoyment and driving.
