Opinions are like other parts of the body, everyone has one or two and that makes it a unique experience.

I have had for sale over the past years several late model Mustangs ranging from 315hp to 500hp which lead to a distinct impression of liking and being distracted by the gas pedal. All of it boiled down to a simple realization after driving this 2008 Bullitt.

Like a lot of modern 200hp motorcycles being sold today, all of that excessive power becomes the machine driving the machine rather than the driver being integrated into the experience.

As far as a bike goes, I have yet to meet a non-professional rider who could come close to reaching and staying at the limits created by 200hp on tap. What qualifies someone to ride one of these bikes is the limit of their credit rating or size of their check book. It is certainly not the skill set needed to explore the gray area of traction and control and sliding off into the kiddy litter. Needless to say, they sell a lot of 200hp motorcycles. You do the math.

And back to the car at hand. It was purchased new by a local resident, to quote a worn cliché, an mature woman just this side of social security when it was new. She has kept the car as one of her priced possessions the past 14 years and only recently considered selling it due to a acquiring a broken hip in 2018. Since then, it has sat undriven in her garage and the sad reality of it melting into the garage floor brought the car to the shop for sale.

I really loved driving this car. There was none of the terrifying, neck snapping, sideways explosive events that have nothing to do with car control but answer another question. How much is too much? The Bullitt had a ton of controllable horsepower, enough to break it loose predictably and within my comfort zone on the street. Though my phone is charged completely, I will never be getting a call from Chip Ganassie or Roger Penske to come drive for them. I am just a glorified weekend warrior at heart, a no body in the wide world of car control.

Just like the other 99% of us.

So I really enjoyed the driving experience. It was tactile, exhilarating and did everything I could have hoped and expected from a rowdy V8 and 5-Speed Manual Transmission. It made me happy and I guess that is what it is all about.
