If you do not take notice of some of the cars, bikes, race cars and hot rods that roll through the doors at Automania LLC, you may not have an automotive pulse. Just the other day, a car guy that has been here even longer then I have came in with his 2010 Firman F1000 for us to sell. Now how cool is this going to be?

Not knowing much about where the car can be run and what classes it competes in, I cheated by looking up the Firman F1000 and found the description of the SCCA Class it was designed for.

“Formula 1000 is an open wheel class of Formula car racing, with professional and amateur series worldwide. Formula 1000 gets its name from the 1000 cc superbike engine used to power a single seat, open wheel race car with fully adjustable wings and suspension. The F1000 class, known in SCCA as FB, is similar to racing classes FA (Formula Atlantic) and FC (Formula Continental). In the United States, Formula 1000 races in the North American Formula 1000 Championship presented by American Racer Tire as well as SCCA amateur competition.

Formula 1000 cars can be purchased new, ready-to-race for $40,000 to $75,000. SCCA rules also allow for converting an existing Formula car (e.g., FC) to meet F1000 requirements. A converted older Van Diemen chassis with a used superbike engine ready-to-race can be found for $25,000 to $45,000. A conversion kit for your current FC car can be purchased for between $8,000 and $12,000.

Formula 1000 Racecars can reach speeds in excess of 170mph; brake and corner beyond 3 g's; and provide a challenge to any driver, engineer, or team. Drivers moving into Formula 1000 from lower formula racing are astonished to feel the power and braking ability in a 1000 pound superbike powered car.”

The Firman RFR 1000 is built by Ralph Firman Racing, producing race winning cars from its facilities in Norfolk (UK), a stone’s throw away from the Snetterton Circuit. The Formula 1000 class was introduced in the USA in 2008, open to all manufacturers and RFR decided to enter this business with it’s own prototype chassis. Following a phenomenal first season wherein the new car won its debut race from pole position with a new lap record, plans were made for the car to go into production. In 2015 and 2016 the RFR F1000 car won the SCCA Run Offs, the largest race in the USA in this category.

Our particular car participated in events around the Northwest and has won races, both at Portland International Speedway and Seattle International Speedway since 2015. We have it’s SCCA Log Book documenting fourteen races since it was new and the ICSCC Log Book recording seven races while in it’s present ownership.

It’s second owner purchased the car used in Langley, BC from the Firman importer, Nicholas Belling as a roller and then a race prepared 2007 GSXR1000 motor as separate components and brought into the US. Servicing is pretty straight forward and the owner has taken care of race preparation himself over the years. Oil is changed after every other event, the filter every event. The chain and sprockets normally need replacement after ten events and now have three on them. The Safety Harnesses are dated coded as good through 2020. The motor has seven races on it, normally they are run twenty-five before needing service and attention. We have the original bills of sale from the first purchase and then the follow bill of sale to our customer. We also have all of the supplied specification and parts books, technical manuals and a factory Suzuki GSXR workshop manual. It is equipped with a Geatronics No Lift Paddle Shift System and the Aim data acquisition system, neither came standard and were high dollar options. There are also included spares, extra wheels, tires and a set of rain tires as shown in the images.

To participate in timed, race events, the driver must be licensed by the organizing event with each organization requiring training or past experience. For track day events, I am not sure what is involved. Check it out before just turning up with the car and a smile.

Our selling price with the spares is $25,995. The car chassis number is RFR007. For other interesting bikes and collectable vehicles, visit our web site http://www.automaniagp.com 541 479 8888 or come by and see us at 895 SE Gladiola Drive, Grants Pass, Oregon, 97526. Oregon Dealer DA1287.
