I was looking at a 1980 Yamaha XS1100 Midnight Special at our local Honda Yamaha shop in ’81 and went with a Honda CBX instead because of the tail pipes. So when a retiring motorcyclist called about selling his bike, I was interested to see the test of time with the bike. My CBX was sold about ten years ago after the middle Carb plugged up requiring the engine to be lowered to get to it. I love bikes, I do not like extreme aggravation which this bike was an on going source of.

First off, this bike is not safe to operate in its present state. It needs tires front and rear immediately and should not be ridden until that service has been completed.

This particular bike is owned by a mechanically inclined individual who kept in excellent running order over the many years he road the bike. As time went on, other bikes came into service and the Yamaha, now needing new tires front and rear, was ridden only occasionally. The stock mufflers rusted through and several sets of aftermarket pipes were installed including the present set which are in good cosmetic condition. Everything that was ever taken off the bike, including the rusted stock exhaust system which was saved and several boxes of parts, including the stock seat are included.

Our bike needs tires immediately but starts and runs beautifully. There are lots of stock parts that go with it as can be seen in the images. Because of the tires, the bike is being sold as not road worthy, a liability issue for us. Everyone has their choice in tires, this will be the decision of the new owner.

This section was taken out of Motorcycle Classics describing the bike and market values. Interesting to see where they are today.
